Recognizing that communication to the public is a critical component to responding to significant events within the community, The Colma Fire District is providing residents the opportunity to subscribe to a Community Alert Network (CAN).  This network, which has been developed in cooperation with the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office of Emergency Service (OES) notifies subscribers of important information and emergency alerts being sent by the city through digital devices including cell phones*, smart phones, pagers and emails.  Notification examples may include:

  • Hazardous Materials Incidents (Shelter in place or evacuation orders)
  • Utility Outages (Power, Water, Gas, Phone)
  • Winter Storm Warnings
  • Flash Floods
  • Road Closures
  • Earthquakes

The system also allows users to be notified of incidents in other cities/towns within San Mateo County.  For Example, if you live in Broadmoor and work in Belmont you could receive alerts from both jurisdictions.

To register for the Community Alert Network go to www.smcalert.info and select the "Click to Register Here" button in the center of the page.

NOTE: Please be aware that although there is no cost for subscribing to the network there may be text charges associated with your cell phone carrier. There are no charges for emails.

For further questions on the system go to
